Adding Domains
Learn how to add and verify domains in MailSentinel for email authentication monitoring.
Adding Domains to MailSentinel
This guide walks you through adding and verifying domains in MailSentinel.
Prerequisites
Before adding a domain, ensure you have:
- Access to your domain's DNS settings
- A MailSentinel account (organization owner or admin role)
Step 1: Navigate to Domains
- Log in to your MailSentinel dashboard
- Click Domains in the sidebar
- Click Add Domain
Step 2: Enter Your Domain
Enter your domain name (e.g., example.com) in the input field.
example.comNote: Add the root domain, not subdomains. MailSentinel will automatically monitor subdomains.
Step 3: Verify Ownership
To verify you own the domain, add a TXT record to your DNS:
DNS Record Details
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Type | TXT |
| Host | @ or leave blank |
| Value | mailsentinel-verify=<your-token> |
| TTL | 300 (5 minutes) or default |
Adding the Record
Cloudflare:
- Go to DNS settings
- Click "Add Record"
- Select TXT type
- Enter the verification value
- Save
GoDaddy:
- Go to DNS Management
- Add a new TXT record
- Leave Host as @
- Paste the verification value
- Save
AWS Route 53:
- Go to Hosted Zones
- Select your domain
- Create Record
- Choose TXT type
- Enter the verification value
- Create records
Step 4: Complete Verification
After adding the DNS record:
- Return to MailSentinel
- Click Verify Domain
- Wait for DNS propagation (usually 5-15 minutes)
Tip: DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate globally, but most changes are visible within minutes.
After Verification
Once verified, MailSentinel will:
- Scan DNS Records - Check for existing DMARC, SPF, and DKIM records
- Start Monitoring - Begin processing incoming DMARC reports
- Generate Insights - Provide recommendations based on your configuration
Managing Multiple Domains
You can add multiple domains to a single organization:
- Each domain is monitored independently
- Reports are aggregated in the dashboard
- Alerts can be configured per-domain
Troubleshooting
Verification Failed
Common causes:
- DNS record not yet propagated - wait 15 minutes and retry
- Incorrect TXT value - double-check for typos
- Wrong record location - ensure it's on the root domain
Domain Already Exists
If you see "domain already exists":
- Check if it's in another organization you own
- Contact support if you believe it was added in error
Next Steps
After adding your domain:
- Configure DMARC - Set up your DMARC policy
- Set Up Alerts - Get notified about issues
- Invite Team Members - Collaborate with your team
